Gelbrich Tobiana

Gelbrich 'Geli' Tobiana (The Hague, 1963)  
 
Born in the Netherlands, Geli took up gymnastics and dance as a young girl but her dream was always to be in the circus. While studying towards a degree as a biology and health teacher, Geli decided to follow her dream and signed up for acrobalancing classes.

 

Geli's circus education continued in Amsterdam studying acrobalance with:

 

The Como-Brothers, The Osmani's, pyramids and summersaults with Moustapha Akalay and trapeze with Anne Harmsen. Following this was the Fratellini National Circus School and Carre Silvia Monfort in Paris and the Centre National des Arts du Cirque and Claude Victoria in Chalons sur Marne.

 

Geli met Pierre in 1995 when they worked together on the ACCO Fringe Festival that Pierre was co-ordinating.

 

Geli's career highlights include:

 

  • Two years tour with the French Revolutionary Circus "Archaos" across Europe, Israel and Canada

  • Wintergarten, Berlin and Friedrichs bau in Stuttgart with Bernard Paul from Circus Roncalli

  • Temposan harbour village, Osaka

  • Cirque de Demain, Paris

  • Israeli Festival, Jerusalem

  • Dan Shilom talkshow, Israel

  • Shared a stage with Sinead O'Connor at Glastonbury festival and Shirley Bassey on a television show

  • Performances for Sean Connery at the Edinburgh Festival and Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands at a diplomatic meeting with Helmut Kohl
